What is Attic Room Insulation ?

Attic room Insulation or room in roof insulation is insulation for a room which is built into the roof of your home. This could be a chalet style bungalow or modern 3 storey home or an older victorian villa/terrace. It may be that you had a loft conversion to create extra living space.

Most attic rooms/ rooms in the roof space are very poorly insulated and are very cold in the winter and hot in the summer. Free attic room insulation can solve this problem for you, making your home much more comfortable all year round.

What is Attic Room Insulation ?

Yes, there are some restrictions on what actually counts as a ‘room in a roof. Some key requirements to take note of are:

The rooms must have a fixed staircase leading up to it. You must be able to walk down facing forward. So that means no attic ladders.

The room, particularly the rafters, needs to be adequately ventilated, to avoid condensation building up.

Your roof shouldn’t be damaged or weakened – meaning no damp, mould, rot, flaking timbers or unreliable electrical connections.

If your home has a room in the attic or loft space that is accessed by a proper staircase you could benefit from a grant covering the cost of having this fully insulated. Typically you may have a dormer window. Room In Roof or Attic room Insulation grants are part of the Energy Companies Obligation scheme.

Most of these rooms have very little or no insulation and can be very cold in the winter and also very hot in the summer. Insulating correctly means that not only are you warmer in the winter but also cooler in the summer. You can save £100`s on your energy bills.

Specially designed insulation is fitted to the sloping part of the room. Insulation is fixed to the back of the vertical walls. A layer of plasterboard is then installed over the insulation material and plastered ready for decoration.
